Sorry to pile on the Cardinal news but, with the whole infield except for Pujols uncertain, the Cardinals will either make a lot of news this winter or a lot of fans unhappy next summer.

Cardinal shortstop David Eckstein is a free agent and St. Louis hasn't made a move to resign him, YET. But, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, that doesn't mean he won't be back. The Cards need a shortstop and the list of veteran free agents at that position currently is limited to Eckstein (although the Pirates' Cesar Izturis will soon be joining the list). On the other hand, there doesn't seem to be much demand for Eckstein. So expect something to be worked out. Besides, David - who was the 2006 World Series MVP - is a St. Louis fan favorite and, after this year's collapse, the Red Birds might be better off keeping the fans happy than looking elsewhere.
