ESPN is reporting that the Baltimore Orioles have traded star short stop Miguel Tejada to the Houston Astros for a huge haul of 5 players! In return for their offensive leader, the O’s reportedly receive “Luke Scott, pitchers Matt Albers, Troy Patton and Dennis Sarfate, and third-base prospect Michael Costanzo.” Tejada had been wanting out of Baltimore for quite a while and it appears he finally got his wish. The O’s on the other hand have signaled that they will indeed enter a rebuilding phase which likely means trades of ace Erik Bedard and 2nd basemen Brian Robers will follow shortly.
It’s difficult to think the timing of this deal didn’t have something to do with the Mitchell Report due out tomorrow and Tejada’s name being linked to the topic. I guess we’ll figure that out tomorrow won’t we?

1Nice addition of Valverde, but how many opportunity will he actually get in Minute Maid Park?

2Matt Albers alone would have made this a go deal. O’s earned some respect from a Yankees fan on this one.
