MLB Trade Rumors has a "trusted New York sportswriter" talking about at giant three way deal between the Mets, Twins and A's:
Of course you have to wonder why a "trusted New York sportswriter" would pass along a story like this rather than reporting it himself. In any case the deal doesn't seem as lucrative for the Twins as some other offers that have been floated and it would, of course, all hinge on the Mets negotiating a multi-year deal with Santana which I'm beginning to suspect may be the reason the Twins can't close a deal. Maybe Santana's price is just too much to swallow after giving up quality players and/or several key prospects. And maybe Johan is willing to gamble that he'll be worth even more next year as a free-agent who'll cost a team dollars but no players.

1i just cant believe that the Mets would be willing to deal Reyes at all, even for Santana.

2Derek, I’m with you. I don’t see why the Mets would trade the face of their franchise for a pitcher who’s going to make $20 million a year and play once every five days. I also haven’t seen this floated anywhere else so I’m hesitant to buy into it.

3HELL YES DO IT REYES ISNT THE FACE OF THE FRANCHISE DAVID WRIGHT IS! THE METS WONT WIN A THING UNLESS THEY GET TOP OF THE LINE PITCHING AND A ONE TWO PUNCH OF MARTINEZ AND SANTANA IS A STEP IN THE RIGHT DIRECTION

4Mets fan, there’s no need to shout. Also, are you kidding me? Reyes is one of the most recognizable personalities in baseball and he certainly is the face of the franchise. And if you think it would be a one two punch with Martinez being the 1 and Santana the 2, you’re fooling yourself. Martinez is no where near the pitcher Santana is, at least not anymore. That being said, a pitcher still only pitches once every 5 days and I just don’t see the Mets giving up Reyes.

5This is insanity. If anyone other than Twins or Red Sox got Santana, it will be Seattle, or long-shot NYY.

7What’s with NY people and the f’ing caps lock? SHY GUY TURN IT OFF NEXT TIME PLEASE!
That aside, your point is a solid one. Reyes is the ignition for that offense and I just don’t see why they would consider trading him at this point.

8Ok Look if this was even being talked about the Mets would get the shaft on it giving up Reyes. He is young and the best lead off man around. Plus who you going to play at SS if he is gone? And to who ever said that he is the best SS in NY you got a lot to learn but the best SS is NY is playing 3rd these days. BYW I’m a Boston Fan so that makes it easy to say.
