ESPN.com is reporting that the Washington Nationals have signed free agent catcher Paul Lo Duca to a one year deal. The deal will keep the veteran catcher in the NL East where he spent the last two seasons with the New York Mets. Financial details of the deal have not been disclosed (read as I haven’t found them yet) but I will update this post when they become available.

The Nationals are obviously hoping Lo Duca regains his 2006 form when he batted .318 with 80 runs scored. However, the catcher’s defense has become a bigger problem recently and his drop in batting average last year led the Mets and several other teams to believe Lo Duca’s best days are behind him.
