Wow, what an incredible start to the offseason. A-Rod opts out of his contract, the Yankees reportedly offer Joe Girardi their vacant managerial job, and now a big time trade.

The Atlanta Braves have reportedly traded short stop Edgar Renteria to the Detroit Tigers for two high end prospects. The Tigers fill their need for a SS and the Braves restock their farm system. I will admit I don’t know much about the youngsters involved in the deal but according the to AP, “Jurrjens started seven games in Detroit last year and was 3-1 with a 4.70 ERA. He was 7-5 with a 3.20 ERA in 19 starts for Double-A Erie. Hernandez hit .293 with four homers, 50 RBIs and stole 54 bases in 124 games at Class-A West Michigan last season.”

Also, on a personal note, this will finally be the off season that I move the Rumor Mill off of MLBlogs and over to YourSportsFix. I’m not quite there yet but I finally have someone that knows what they are doing working on the site and I’m shooting for the end of next week to have the big announcement. For now though be sure to subscribe to the Rumor Mill Rumblings to keep up with all the happenings in baseball and on your favorite mlb rumor site (humor me here).

Oh and congrats to the Boston Red Sox and Red Sox Nation. You’ve become the embodiment of everything you hated just a few years ago.
