Tampa Bay Rays Sign Pat Burrell

Pat Burrell is moving from one World Series team, to the other. The Tampa Bay Rays have reportedly signed former Philadelphia Phillies power-hitting outfielder Pat Burrell to a two year deal worth $16 million.

Burrell, never known for his skills with a glove, will serve as an upgrade to the Rays output from their DH slot.

Braves Sign Furcal

The Atlanata Braves have reportedly reached a deal with free agent shortstop, Rafael Furcal, to return to Atlanta. Financial details of the deal haven’t been released yet but it is rumored to be for three years with a vesting option for a fourth. Ken Rosenthal of FoxSports calls the signing a “major offseason upset” as the Oakland A’s had been considered the major favorites to land Furcal, having extended a guaranteed 4th year in their $40 millon offer.

2009 Non-Tender Free Agents

The Free Agent pool of players got a bit bigger at midnight on Friday when players who were not tendered contract offers from their teams became free agents. I’ve broken the list down by position and as you can see, there are a few surprises here including former Dodgers closer Takashi Saito (2.49 ERA and 18 saves) and Nationals starter Tim Redding (10 wins).

Rumor: Tigers Trading Inge

The writing has certainly been on the wall for Brandon Inge since the Tigers acquired third basemen Miguel Cabrera. And now, it appears that Inge has requested a trade.
