For readers who aren't yet drawing Social Security, it may be difficult to believe St. Louis once hosted two major league teams. In fact, St. Louis' old Sportsman's Park was the site of the last World Series played entirely in one stadium when the Cardinals and the Browns faced off there in 1944. Not surprisingly to people who remember the Browns, they lost in their only World Series appearance. The Browns may best be remembered for the antics of owner Bill Veeck which included using a midget as a pinch-hitter (aided by a small strike zone and the pitcher's laughter, he walked on four pitches).
